Leadership coaching for the London Kidney Network

Kaleidoscope Health and Care has a multi-year partnership with the London Kidney Network, providing leadership coaching to enhance their effectiveness.

The challenge

The London Kidney Network (LKN) was set up in 2021 to improve the experiences of people affected by kidney disease and to promote and establish cost-effective service models

The LKN works collaboratively with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to identify what good looks like and to help services make changes to meet their vision for better outcomes.

The LKN’s leadership team was seeking coaching and mentoring to work through persistent issues and develop their effectiveness as network leaders in a constantly shifting environment. They came to us for our specific expertise in networks and leadership development.

Our approach

Drawing on our knowledge of network theory and practice, Kaleidoscope provided targeted leadership coaching. We conducted monthly sessions, building on our work with the leaders over the year. Using the TGROW model and contemporary leadership theories, the coaching focused on specific challenges and honing leadership skills and behaviours to address them:

  • Topic: clarification and exploration of the topic
  • Goal: setting of specific goals – long/medium/short term and for the session itself
  • Reality: understanding where they are now in relation to their goals
  • Options: exploring options for moving forward
  • Will/Way forward: identifying and agreeing specific actions

Our approach was also grounded in our experience working with healthcare collaborations. We bring a wealth of expertise in helping leaders to navigate complexity, maintain strategic focus, and foster resilience.

Results

Feedback from the coaching sessions highlighted that the network leaders felt they had gained a lot from the process, including:

  • a productive space for reflection
  • support to make sense of the challenges
  • actionable strategies to navigate complexities
  • skills to lead with greater resilience and adaptability.

As a result, those leaders were able to steer the network through uncharted territory, communicate more effectively, and maintain focus on strategic priorities. With their greater insights and capabilities they were also able to flex their leadership approach as needed.

Our work with Kaleidoscope has been transformational. Their deep expertise in network leadership has given us the space, frameworks and support to work through one challenge after another, and keep growing in our ability to lead the network with clarity, resilience and agility.
