Managing director of consultancy
We’re looking for someone to join us in the key role of managing director of consultancy
Hello, we’re Kaleidoscope. We’re a consultancy of a different kind. We work to improve health and care. We’re looking for someone to join us as our Managing Director of Consultancy – including as a company director and key member of our Board.
As a social enterprise, we have a mission to work with others to create a future that is kind, connected and joyful. One of the key ways we do this is by providing consultancy services to clients across public, private and voluntary sectors in health and beyond. We are also a Teal organisation, which shapes how we organise ourselves, make decisions and work with others.
Our first requirement is that you’re kind. Beyond this, there is no ‘right’ sort of Kscoper; we want a company inclusive of different and unique people. We are committed to creating a company that ensures a diversity of voices in all parts of our work.
The role
As managing director of consultancy, you’ll blend both the tactical (rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in) and strategic (leading our organisation in certain key areas). For us, it’s fundamental in ensuring that we have robust commercial and consultancy operations that support our business and staff to thrive.
Consultancy leadership
In the consultancy leadership side of the role you’ll lead Kaleidoscope’s entire consultancy function, from business development through to delivery and client outcomes. Working closely with our service leads, you’ll ensure that we grow sustainably, maintain our reputation for excellence, and deliver exceptional value to clients. You will ensure that we have robust systems and processes across all aspects of our consultancy work – from identifying opportunities and winning work, to managing project delivery and profitability, to maintaining long-term client relationships.
Company director
On the company director side, you’ll contribute to stewarding Kaleidoscope’s overall financial health and sustainability, and working closely with the wider team to think about how we can continue to make Kaleidoscope a thriving, purpose-driven organisation. You’ll also act as a trusted advisor to the wider Kaleidoscope team – offering your own insight and expertise to shape our organisational decisions and strategic direction.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an exceptional individual who will:
- Be deeply committed to what Kaleidoscope is trying to achieve: working with others to create a future that is kind, connected and joyful.
- Be committed to the type of organisation Kaleidoscope is, and aspires to be. You do not need to be an expert on ‘teal’ organisations, but your thoughts on organisations will closely align with what Kaleidoscope seeks to be.
- Bring proven experience of leading and growing consultancy services, with the commercial acumen to identify opportunities, win work, and deliver profitable growth whilst maintaining exceptional client relationships and outcomes.
- Have experience of board-level governance or clear readiness to take on company director responsibilities, understanding both the legal duties and the strategic stewardship required to guide a values-driven organisation through growth and challenge.
- Have a range of direct consultancy skills relevant to Kaleidoscope’s core service lines, with the ability – by exception – to lead large programmes of complex work.
- Bring exceptional relationship-building skills – able to credibly represent Kaleidoscope with the most senior health and care leaders while inspiring and developing internal teams to deliver their best work.
- Understand the pressures and trade-offs inherent in small organisations and businesses and what this means for decision-making, ambiguity, and risk tolerance – particularly in the context of public sector constraints.
- Have a track record of leading high-performing teams through periods of change and growth, with the ability to maintain staff engagement and performance whilst adapting to new challenges and opportunities.
- Have a strong understanding of the health and care landscape, with the ability to bring contacts, identify emerging opportunities, and position Kaleidoscope’s expertise to address current and future sector needs.
If you’re reading this wondering ‘is it really for me?’ or ‘I don’t quite meet all of the criteria’ then please get in touch to ask some questions or consider applying anyway.
We know that some people are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every task but we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, rather than the person who can tick every box on a list.
Salary and hours
At Kaleidoscope, pay is decided through a mix of individual decision and whole organisation discussion. When you join, we’ll make you an offer in the range of £91,831-£95,882 based on your skills and experience.
This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Working part-time is an option, but due to the role’s breadth we are only able to consider applications for 30 hours per week or above. Our office is in London SE8. Currently our team works in a hybrid way (at home, in office and at client locations). We have flexible working policies, and would be happy to discuss flexible working requirements with any candidates.
How to apply
To apply, you need to do the following:
- Respond to the questions “To thrive in today’s health and care world, (a) what do Kaleidoscope’s consultancy services need to focus on? and (b) how would you lead that process of evolution and change?” (no more than two sides of A4).
- Include a summary of relevant experience that speaks to what we’ve outlined above – please note we don’t want a traditional CV (no more than two sides of A4).
- Confirm that you have the right to work in the UK.
- Include a contact phone number in your email.
- Please put only your initials and the day and month (not year!) of birth at the top of both your response to the question and experience summary (e.g. JB0511) as we shortlist in a ‘blind’ process and do not want identifiable information included in the application material (it’s okay to have them in your email – the recruiting panel will not see this information).
Please email the above to hello@kscopehealth.org.uk with the subject line ‘Managing director, Consultancy’.
Deadline: midday Wednesday 24 July.
We will contact all applicants to confirm the outcome of the process.
Interview dates
For applicants invited to interview we are planning to hold interviews in the week of 28 July.
Please contact us if this will be difficult for you.
Questions?
We will be holding an online Ask Me Anything session about this opportunity and working at Kaleidoscope on Friday 18 July 2025. If you are interested in joining this, please register.
If you need any reasonable adjustments for the application process or have any specific questions then please email us at hello@kscopehealth.org.uk and put ‘Managing director, consultancy’ as the subject line.
