Head of finance and operations

We’re looking for a new head of finance and operations to join our friendly team

Hello, we’re Kaleidoscope. We’re a consultancy of a different kind. We work to improve health and care.

We’re a social enterprise who use our profit to further our mission: to work with others to create a future that is kind, connected and joyful. We do this by providing consultancy services to clients across public, private and voluntary sectors in health and beyond.

We are also a Teal organisation, which shapes how we organise ourselves, make decisions and work with others. Following our recent transition to employee ownership, we’re looking for someone to fill a newly created role that combines financial leadership with operational support.

Our first requirement is that you’re kind. Beyond this, there is no ‘right’ sort of Kscoper; we want a company inclusive of different and unique people. We are committed to creating a company that ensures a diversity of voices in all parts of our work.

The role

We’re looking for someone to join us as our Head of Finance and Operations – a role that is a blend of tactical (rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in) and strategic (leading our organisation in certain areas) and is key in ensuring that we have slick and robust financial, people and operational approaches that support our business and staff to thrive.

In the finance side of the role you’ll lead the financial function at Kaleidoscope, working closely with our accountants to ensure that we run smoothly and comply with all financial regulations. You will ensure that we have good data from which to forecast, budget and decision-make, underpinned by solid financial processes (from invoicing to payment to expenses to payroll). You’ll also act as a trusted advisor to the wider Kaleidoscope team – offering your own insight and expertise to shape our organisational decisions.

In the operational side of your role you’ll support the operational management of Kaleidoscope – from ensuring our HR processes work smoothly, to identifying ways we could improve existing policies and procedures, to working closely with the wider team to think about how we can continue to make Kaleidoscope a kind, connected and joyful place to work.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • are deeply committed to Kaleidoscope’s purpose: working with others to create a future which is kind, connected and joyful
  • have strong financial expertise – ideally as a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) but if not, with equivalent professional experience in small businesses or not for profit organisations and in senior finance roles
  • have experience of Xero accounting software and google workspace
  • have experience of operational management (HR, risk management, health and safety, office management)
  • are capable of giving thoughtful, constructive challenge to support better decision making
  • have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to people who aren’t financial experts
  • are comfortable working autonomously, and happy to balance collaboration, advice seeking and decision making to deliver your work
  • are comfortable balancing innovation with good governance in growing organisations.

We would be even more excited to hear from you if you also have:

  • experience in health, care, consultancy, or mission-driven organisations
  • knowledge of social enterprise regulations and compliance
  • knowledge or experience of employee owned, Teal or self managed organisations.

If you’re reading this wondering ‘is it really for me?’ or feeling ‘I don’t quite meet all of the criteria’ then please get in touch to ask some questions or consider applying anyway.

We know that some people are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every task but we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, rather than the person who can tick every box on a list.

Salary and hours

At Kaleidoscope pay is decided through a mix of individual decision and whole organisation discussion. When you join, we’ll make you an offer in the range of £65,497 to £69,548 based on your skills and experience.

This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Our office is in London SE8 and currently our team works in a hybrid way (at home, in office and at client locations). We have flexible working policies, and would be happy to discuss flexible working requirements with any candidates.

How to apply

To apply, you need to do the following:

  • Answer the question ‘What core principles do you think underpin good financial and operational management in a small business and why?’ (no more than one side of A4).
  • Include a summary of relevant experience that speaks to what we’ve outlined above – please note we don’t want a traditional CV (no more than one side of A4).
  • Confirm that you have the right to work in the UK.
  • Include a contact phone number in your email.
  • Please put only your initials and the day and month (not year!) of birth at the top of both your response to the question and experience summary (e.g. JB0511) as we shortlist in a ‘blind’ process and do not want identifiable information included in the application material (it’s okay to have them in your email – the recruiting panel will not see this information).

Please email the above to hello@kscopehealth.org.uk with subject line ‘Head of Finance and Operations’.

Deadline: midnight on Sunday 6 July 2025.

Please note we will contact all applicants to confirm the outcome of the process.

Interview dates

For applicants invited to interview we are planning to hold virtual stakeholder panels on Monday 14 July 2025 and interviews on Tuesday 15 July 2025.

Questions?

We will be holding an online Ask Me Anything session about this opportunity and working at Kaleidoscope on Tuesday 1 July at 4.30pm. If you are interested in joining, please register.

If you need any reasonable adjustments for the application process or have any specific questions then please email us at hello@kscopehealth.org.uk and put ‘Finance and Operations Manager’ as the subject line.
