Our work

We carried out the first phase of work to better understand how we can meet our vision for clinical and care professional system leadership for south east London between February and May 2021.

Such leadership supports our ambition to achieve better care and health outcomes for our local population, and ensure that those working to deliver care across our ICS partnership feel valued and proud to be working in south east London.

The work heard from more than 100 leaders during a combination of interviews, digital workshops and a survey.

Three clear themes emerged that must underpin clinical and care professional systems leadership:

  • there needs to be clear purpose, focus and ambition
  • it needs to be underpinned by a culture of connection and learning
  • it needs to be inclusive, supportive and interdependent with managerial and executive, public and patient leadership.

We then co-developed a set of six principles, which we agreed will guide all of the work going forward, and designed two work streams for phase two of the programme.

Clinical and care professional leadership summit

More than 50 clinical and care professional leaders from across south east London met at a summit to discuss key messages arising from our engagement programme so far, and what the next steps for developing clinical and care professional leadership in south east London might be.

Together, we ratified the core themes, discussed the key messages arising so far and the next steps for developing clinical and care professional leadership in SEL.
