Change NHS: staff events guide

These pages give you all the information you should need for taking part in a Change NHS event.

We are delighted that you are joining us at a Change NHS staff event taking place across the regions during February and March. These in-person deliberative events will focus on shaping the future of health and care services and contributing to the new 10 Year Health Plan for the NHS.

You can find more information (including the date and location) about your specific regional event in your calendar invitation and welcome letter.

Ahead of your event, we want to share some important information to ensure that you get the most out of the session.

Pre-event survey

If you haven’t already, please complete the pre-event survey. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete and contains important questions for the event, including selecting your discussion groups and your media preferences.

We will do our best to accommodate your discussion group preferences, but we cannot guarantee your first choice. If you do not complete the survey, we will allocate you randomly.

Shape of the day

The event will be focussed on understanding your experiences, thoughts and ideas on shaping the future of health and care services and contributing to the new 10 Year Health Plan for the NHS.

Download the agenda for the day

You will spend most of the day in your breakout groups having a focused discussion on one of the three big shifts in healthcare to make the NHS fit for the future.

We will spend some time building our collective understanding of the shift including: the rationale for change and potential for impact; our emerging vision; and what we have heard so far from the public and staff in the engagement.

We will then discuss more specific elements of the shift that will directly affect you as members of the workforce to get your perspective on them. These are set out below.

Hospital to community

  • Shifting to a workforce model with a greater emphasis on generalist skills.
  • The impact of shifting to work more in communities on the day-to-day working lives of staff.
  • Building trust and shared risk management between hospital and community services.

Analogue to digital

  • Getting the basics right.
  • Transformative future potential and innovation.
  • Digital inclusion and addressing inequalities.

Sickness to prevention

  • Supporting patients and marginalised groups to access preventative services.
  • Training and support for the workforce on engaging patients with preventative services.

Who will be attending

Your breakout groups will be made up of a mix of health and care staff from across your region. Participants are from the NHS, social care and public health, and include a range of staff types working across different care settings and communities, reflecting the diversity of both our workforce and the patients we serve.

How to contribute

We ask that you come as yourself, to share your honest experiences and perspectives as an individual member of staff. You do not need to represent your team, organisation or professional group. None of the perspectives you share will be individually attributable.

You’re more than welcome to discuss your involvement on social media on or after the day, but we’d ask that you respect the privacy of others and the comments they make.

You do not need to prepare anything in advance. However, if you would like to read about the ambition and development of the 10 Year Health Plan and three big shifts in healthcare to make the NHS fit for the future, you can read more at the links below.
