Our community grew out of extensive engagement in 2021 to understand how we can collectively use our clinical and care professional leadership capacity to greatest serve our people and populations.
What’s a clinical and care professional leader?
By clinical and care professional leader we mean someone who supports people to work together across organisations and professions to improve the health and wellbeing of people in their patch.
What did we learn?
We heard from more than 100 leaders over several months in a combination of interviews, digital workshops and a survey. Based on this, we set out six underpinning principles and designed proposals to develop clinical and care professional capacity and capability through two workstreams.
The six principles are:
- clear and motivational strategy
- focused on impact
- structures to enable, not direct
- culture of learning
- diversity in all we do
- leadership support.
What came next?
This process demonstrated the value and need to invest in building a vibrant community of south east London system leaders.
Having secured initial funding, we are now focusing on creating a new South East London System Leadership Collaborative, which will be responsible for building this community.
This is an exciting and ambitious initiative. It demonstrates our shared commitment to equipping our current and future system leaders with the capability and opportunity to succeed in promoting the new, more collaborative, systemic ways of working that we need to achieve our aspirations as an integrated system of care.
Our community activity will take place under the banner of the South East London System Leadership Collaborative and will feed into broader plans for the system leadership development activities provided through the Collaborative.
